The Greater Greensboro CROP Hunger Walk was begun in 1981 by the Reverend J. Doane Stott and Mrs. Flora Belle Stott, a retired missionary couple who long supported CROP in its work to fight the root causes of hunger around the world. Though modest in it’s beginnings, the Greater Greensboro CROP Hunger Walk quickly grew and in 1985, the Southeast Guilford and Northwest Guilford satellite walks were added. In 1989, one additional satellite walk was added in Browns Summit, bringing the Walk to one main walk with three satellite walks.

Today, there is the main walk and two satellite locations. As the walk has grown over the years, the location has had to be changed as well. What once could be contained in Grimsley Stadium was moved to the War Memorial Stadium in the late 80’s, to the Greensboro Coliseum in the early 90’s, to the First National Bank Field (formerly NewBridge Bank Park) in 2005 where the walk was held through 2017 , in 2018 we returned to the Greensboro Coliseum, and annually welcomes nearly 3,000 walkers. In 2024, we move to a new location at Barber Park.

Currently, the 5th largest walk in the nation, the Greater Greensboro CROP Hunger Walk plans to continue to lead the nation in raising money to help end hunger domestically and around the world.
