Greensboro Urban Ministry raised a record $113,783 in donations and pledges at its 17th annual Feast of Caring on Thursday. More than 2,100 people attended the event. The group had projected to raise $80,000 this year. Last year's event raised $79,200.

"This morning when we were able to total our gifts and pledges from last night, I was speechless," said the Rev. Mike Aiken, executive director of Greensboro Urban Ministry. "We still are faced with the challenge of raising the rest of our $3 million budget, but with the spark provided by the Feast of Caring and God's loving grace, I am confident we will meet our goal."

William Mangum's 2008 Honor Card entitled "First Light" was unveiled Thursday night and is now available for a donation of $5 or more per card at the following locations: all Wachovia Bank branches in Greensboro, Barnes and Noble (Friendly Center), Leon Style Salons, William Mangum Fine Art Gallery (2166 Lawndale Drive), the Urban Ministry business office (305 W. Lee St.) and many area congregations.
