GREENSBORO — The City Council designated $400,000 worth of federal stimulus money to renovate a downtown building that will be used for a homeless day center.

Advocates told council members Tuesday night that they are busy working to provide services to homeless residents and raising money for future efforts.

The stimulus money will allow them to accomplish another important goal, providing a place for the homeless to spend the day.

The money will go to the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, which is providing financial oversight for the program.

Renovation will start by the middle of June. Organizers hope to have the operation open by October.
